Verizon looks to grow locally in 2011

Verizon Wireless will fill almost 500 openings at its call center in Northeast Richland in 2011, both as a result of turnover and expected growth. Verizon plans to take on about 40 new employees per month in 2011, said Tony May, director of the customer service operation.

New campaign aims to boost community involvement

Columbia Opportunity Resource wants professional to be more involved in the community. It will host an event to boost involvement and personal development Feb. 10. Featured speakers include Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.

S.C. BlueCross Health Insurance goes mobile on phones

Customers of some BlueCross health plans will be able to use their smartphones to check account balances or even locate in-network care centers. BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has made its secure website for customers, My Health Toolkit, available for viewing and interaction on the small screens of mobile smartphones.

Fluor board names S.C. native CEO

SeatonNorth Augusta native David Seaton will lead the Irving, Texas-based engineering and construction company that has major operations in Greenville.
